WHAT ABOUT THIS STRANGE NAME ?
In English, Colibris Sans Frontières would be roughly translated as "Hummingbird Without Boarders". And so what ? We are not keen on ornitology ("What the hell is this bird ?") and we clearly do not have in mind to follow the hummingbird migration throughout the world ! We chose Colibris because of an amerindian legend, because we want to do our bit. Before thinking we are another hippie couple, please read The Legend of the Hummingbird or watch the below video (in French) !
One day, a long time ago and in a faraway place, or so the legend goes, there was a huge forest fire that was raging the countryside. All the animals were terrified, running around in circles, screaming, crying and helplessly watching the impending disaster. But there in the middle of the flames, and above the cowering animals, was a tiny hummingbird busy flying from a small pond to the fire, each time fetching a few drops with its beak to throw on the flames. And then again And then again. After a while, an old grouchy armadillo, annoyed by this ridiculous useless agitation on the part of the hummingbird, cried out: “Tiny bird! Don’t be a fool. It is not with those miniscule drops of water one after the other that you are going to put out the fire and save us all! ”To which the hummingbird replied, “Could be, but I’m going to do my bit”.
HOW DID IT ALL HAPPEN ?
It all started at the end of 2013 ! Not knowing it, we both started our journey each at home, via an online subscription... on www.mission-humanitaire.fr (what did you expect ?). Three months later, 40 kg donation on our shoulders, let's head up to Benin for our first volunteer trip ! The human adventure is so convincing... that it just planted seeds in our minds (let's confess... the ground was fertile!). Few weeks after, seating at an Indian Bar, the project was born : why not just leaving, discover the world while being useful ?! Sounds easy !
What was at the beginning a joke just make the seeds grow, globe turns, weeks are flying, ideas are germinating... and that's it ! One year later, our backpacks are packed, we just have to make new use of our passports !
AND CONCRETLY ? BECAUSE AS FAR AS I KNOW, YOU DO NOT HAVE A BEAK....
No powerpoint here however Colibri 002 demonstrates hours of exprience in that topic !
Well, no beak... But 2 backpacks, 12 months, a great desire for traveling and a strong motivation, we definitly want to do our bit ! This year, this opportunity we have, will be punctuated with volunteering actions, with solidarity-based projects, with experiences and "RENCONTRES" in India, in Cambodia, in Madagascar... anywhere our wings will take us and anywhere we can be useful ! We don't have in mind to change the world (however...!), but we wan't to see it, to see it differently, to make it better, step by step !
